Year-Round Lawn Care Program

Our 8-Round Lawn Treatment Schedule for Augusta-Area Lawns

Healthy turf comes from doing the right thing at the right time. Here is exactly what Matthews Turf Management applies to your lawn in each round, month by month, all year long.

✓  8 rounds, January through December

✓  Prevention, feeding and weed control on schedule

✓  Serving Augusta, Aiken and the CSRA

Why a program

One-off treatments miss the timing that matters.

Weeds germinate, grass greens up and pests become active on a predictable calendar. A single application can only catch one of those windows. Our year-round program spaces 8 rounds through the year so pre-emergent goes down before weeds sprout, fertilizer arrives when the lawn can use it, and weed control keeps up with each season.

Every round is applied by our own team, and your program is adjusted to your lawn’s turf type, condition and the weeds we see on each visit.

What goes down in each of our 8 rounds

Rounds are spaced through the year so every application lands in the window where it does the most good.

01

Jan / Feb

Round 1: Jan/Feb

Liquid pre-emergent, crabgrass control, broadleaf and poa weed control

Late winter is when crabgrass and other summer weeds are getting ready to germinate. A pre-emergent barrier goes down before they sprout, while broadleaf and poa (annual bluegrass) control cleans up the cool-season weeds already showing in dormant lawns.

02

Feb / Mar

Round 2: Feb/Mar

Liquid pre-emergent, fire ant, broadleaf and poa weed control

A second pre-emergent application extends weed prevention into spring. This round adds fire ant control as soil warms and mounds start to appear, and keeps working on winter broadleaf weeds and poa.

03

Apr / May

Round 3: Apr/May

Granular fertilizer, post-emergent weed control

As warm-season grass greens up, granular fertilizer feeds new growth. Post-emergent weed control targets weeds that are already visible so the turf can fill in thick.

04

May / Jun

Round 4: May/Jun

Liquid iron and fertility, pre-emergent, broadleaf and sedge weed control

Iron deepens color without pushing excessive growth. This round adds pre-emergent for summer weeds plus broadleaf and sedge control, since sedges thrive in Augusta’s summer heat and moisture.

05

Jun / Jul

Round 5: Jun/Jul

Slow-release granular fertilizer, post-emergent weed control

Slow-release fertilizer feeds steadily through peak growing season instead of all at once, and post-emergent weed control handles summer weeds that slip through.

06

Jul / Aug

Round 6: Jul/Aug

Slow-release liquid fertilizer, post-emergent weed control

Steady nutrition helps the lawn hold up to late-summer heat and stress, with post-emergent control keeping weeds in check.

07

Sep / Oct

Round 7: Sep/Oct

Liquid iron and fertility, pre-emergent, broadleaf weed control

Fall is the planning window for winter. Pre-emergent stops cool-season weeds before they germinate, iron and fertility support the lawn heading toward dormancy, and broadleaf weeds are treated.

08

Nov / Dec

Round 8: Nov/Dec

Pre-emergent, broadleaf and poa weed control

A final pre-emergent round extends winter weed prevention, with broadleaf and poa control on weeds that show up in dormant turf. Then the cycle starts again in January.

Lawn program questions

Common questions about our treatment schedule

How many lawn treatments do I need per year?

Matthews Turf’s year-round program includes 8 rounds, spaced roughly every 6 to 8 weeks from January through December, so prevention, feeding and weed control happen at the right time of year.

When should pre-emergent be applied in Augusta?

In our program, pre-emergent goes down in Round 1 (January/February) and Round 2 (February/March) to stop crabgrass and other summer weeds before they germinate, again in Round 4 (May/June), and in Rounds 7 and 8 (September through December) to prevent winter weeds.

What is the difference between pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control?

Pre-emergent creates a barrier that stops weed seeds from sprouting. Post-emergent treats weeds that are already growing. A year-round program uses both at the right times.

What is poa?

Poa annua, or annual bluegrass, is a common cool-season weed that shows up in Augusta-area lawns in winter and spring. Rounds 1, 2 and 8 include poa control.

Does the program include fire ant control?

Yes. Round 2 (February/March) includes fire ant control as the soil warms and fire ants become active.

Can I start the program in the middle of the year?

Yes. You can start at any time, and your first visit is matched to the current round in the schedule. Request a free quote and we’ll recommend where to begin based on your lawn.
